Discharging of palletised bricks The footage shown here illustrates the process involved with the discarge of palletised Dutch bricks using a combination of two and four pronged crane-mounted forks and forklifts at Mistley Quay, UK. Initially the first pallets which have been slung with strops on loading are lifted at four points, taking care to balance the load before the slack is taken up and the pallet is hoisted. Once enough space has been cleared to enable access to the pallets with the crane fork attachments, either a two or four pronged fork is used to clear enough hold area to then employ a fork lift within the hold, to lower stacked pallets to floor level before being lifted by crane. It should be noted that pallets lifted by crane are always lifted from floor level or a steady foundation for safety reasons. Dunnage timber is removed, stored and periodically returned to the brick factory in Holland for re-use. The footage shown relates to the discharge of 1416 tonnes / 1064 pallets and was completed in 12 working hours.
